Membership information

To become a member, you can visit https://tieteentekijoidenliitto.fi/en/membership/welcome_to_the_union, where you can find information on how the membership works & fees and the application form.

To pay the fees, you can fill a form that grants employer (University of Vaasa) to deduct union dues directly from your pay. The link to the authorization form is here: http://tieteentekijoidenliitto.fi/files/1443/valtakirjalomake_englanti.pdf. To help you complete the form, the local branch number is  015, and the exact membership fee percentage of Vaasa University Researchers and Teachers Association is 1,05 % of gross salary.

The fee for members who are not in salaried employment is 8€ / month.

These include:

  • grant/scholarship researchers
  • those on maternity, paternity or parental leave (unsalaried period)
  • those on child care leave
  • conscript soldiers or civilian servicemen
  • those who are unemployed
  • those on alternating leave
  • students (no salary income or grant/scholarship funds)
  • those on an unsalaried leave for some other reason

Payment of the membership fees

The reference numbers for the membership fee payments are sent to all members once a year in January or February. The payments are due quarterly so that the first due date is 31 March. It is important to use the correct reference number when paying to ensure that the payment is recorded accurately.

You should hold on to the letter containing the reference numbers for the entire year.

Membership fees can also be seen at eServices https://easiointi.yap.fi/Tieteentekijat/login-redirect

If, for some reason, you do not receive your reference numbers, you can request them from Organisation Secretary Mari Hurskainen mari.hurskainen(at)tieteentekijoidenliitto.fi.

You can also authorise your employer to collect and pay the membership fee directly from your salary.

Collection of membership fees by proxy

Complete the authorisation form to enable your employer to collect the membership directly from your salary. Give the form to your employer, and send a copy to the membership secretary of the Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers. It may also be necessary to send a copy to your own member association depending on that association’s practices. Print a copy of the completed form for your own records as well.

You can print the authorisation form from the website through Forms.

When completing the form, the basis of amount for collection is the association-specific membership fee percentage that you can get by request from your association or from the Union membership secretary. The form should also include the association number from the list below:
