XXXVI International VAKKI Symposium

February 11–12, 2016 in Vaasa, Finland

2st Call for Papers

The University of Vaasa Research Group for Translation, LSP and Multilingualism (VAKKI) arranges a Symposium on February 11–12, 2016 under the theme of Text and Textuality. We would like to welcome proposals for presentations which discuss the theme from different points of view, for example:

In addition to these, all proposals relating to VAKKI’s research fields are welcome.


The Symposium's keynote speakers together with their provisional titles are:

  • Professor Susanne Göpferich (Applied Linguistics, Justus Liebig University Giessen)
    • From Literacy to Academic Multiliteracy: Educational Challenges, Empirical Findings and Didactical Implications
  • Docent Leena Kuure (English Philology, University of Oulu)
    • Texts, literacies or multimodal practices?
  • Professor Else Mundal (Centre of Medieval Studies, University of Bergen)
    • Textuality and the oral-written continuum in the Middle Ages


Participants may contribute with a presentation (20 min + 5 min discussion) or a poster (the minimum size is A1, ca. 60 cm x 84 cm). The presentations will be compiled into a double blind refereed symposium volume which will be published in printed and electronic open access form. The working languages of the symposium are Finnish, Swedish, English and German.

As for presentation and poster proposals, please submit your abstracts (max. 300 words) to symposium2016 [at] vakki.net as attachments (in rtf or doc format) by November 30, 2015. Please state in the message your name, your affiliation, whether your proposal concerns a section presentation, workshop presentation or a poster. Also mention if you are giving your presentation together with someone else. The papers will be selected based on the scientific quality of the abstract. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by December 18, 2015.

Participants should register for the symposium electronically between December 18, 2015 and January 15, 2016. The registration fee is 110 €. The price includes the Symposium programme and lunch and coffee on both days.

The symposium also features the nomination of Humanist of the Year 2016.
