Posted on 08/10/18.

A collaboration course of the University of Vaasa and Vaasan Lyseo secondary school focusing on energy and sustainable development has started with 13 secondary school students taking the course. Completing the course and secondary school compulsory mathematics courses with sufficient grades gives the students an opportunity to apply to the university's bachelor's and master's programmes in technology via a special direct channel.

The application options are the energy and information technology programme from which students will graduate as Bachelor or Master of Science in Technology and the industrial management and information systems programme from which students will graduate as Bachelor or Master of Science in Economics.

“Our university sees secondary schools as important collaboration partners. We look forward to the future with excitement and want to develop new forms of education together that serve both parties,” says Jari Kuusisto, the Rector of the University of Vaasa.

The course contains studies on three themes: electrical power systems, renewable energy sources and sustainable development, and business in the energy sector. It corresponds to one university study module and is split into three secondary school courses. The courses are taught by teachers from the secondary school. The University of Vaasa is responsible for course material and evaluation criteria.
