International Tutoring

An International Tutor is appointed to every international Master's degree and exchange student. Tutors are fellow students who help the new international students to adjust to the Finnish society and the academic environment. Your Tutor will not only assist you in practical matters, but is also your first friend in Vaasa! Tutors will also organize events for the students throughout the semester. You will hear about your tutor usually one month before the arrival via email.

New students will belong to a tutor group, where one International Tutor has approximately 8-13 students to guide. Tutors are both Finnish and International degree students, from all schools and programmes, both bachelor and master students. Your tutors task is to assist you in getting settled to Vaasa, and having a possibility to meet other students during the events. Tutors do not give any study counselling, nor assist with visa related matters. For those issues please turn to the Admission Services or your Master's programme coordinator.

During the arrival days, tutors organise a pick up service from Vaasa airport or travel centre. This means that it is important that you inform your tutor about the following things:

  • your arrival time to Vaasa and
  • your accommodation information

During orientation week, tutors show the University campus to the new students, organize a city tour, have computer training for new students and assist in other practical matters, such as grocery shopping or opening a Finnish mobile connection.

Your tutor is your first friend in Finland and s/he is there to help you. You should stay in contact with your tutor before your arrival and also after the first couple of weeks in Vaasa. Do not hesitate to ask any questions, your tutor is happy to answer them!
