Doctoral Studies

After completing their Master’s degree, students interested in continuing their careers in research have the possibility to apply for admission to the doctoral programmes of the university. Academic postgraduate degrees give excellent skills and abilities to function in demanding expert and research tasks both in the private and public sector.

Doctoral education is coordinated by the Graduate School of the University of Vaasa. Doctoral studies are offered in four doctoral programmes which cover all the research fields of the university: administrative sciences, languages and communication, business studies, and technology.

The primary study right in postgraduate studies is given for a doctorate degree. The estimated duration of a doctorate degree is 4 years with full-time studies. Education leading to a doctorate degree is organised in close cooperation with the university’s research groups. The University awards approximately 20 doctorate degrees each year.

There are two application periods to the doctoral programmes each year (deadline at the end of April and end of October). More information about the application process and doctoral programmes is available at the page of the Graduate School of the University of Vaasa.
