"Understanding Different Cultures"

Graduated from: Master's Degree Programme in Intercultural Studies in Communication and Administration

After studying German and English and the cultures of German speaking countries and English speaking countries at the University of Cergy-Pontoise, in France, Helena decided to apply to the Master's Degree Programme in Intercultural Studies in Communication and Administration.

"The first thing that comes to my mind is a great lesson learnt on how you should always bear in mind the culture of the person standing in front of you. The way we work and dialogue here in Europe is not the same as in China for instance, so if we want some project to succeed, we have to understand the identity and the culture of the people with whom we are collaborating."

Helena is currently an international coordinator at Centria University of Applied Sciences.

"My job consists in advising students wishing to go abroad for an exchange period and counseling the students which are coming for an exchange period at Centria UAS. I am also in regular contact with our partner universities abroad. I also coordinate an exchange programme between Finland and China – this means I get to travel to Shanghai from time to time."

"Teachers and staff at the University of Vaasa are ready to help and counsel students – all is set for a great experience."
