Department of Accounting and Finance

Welcome to the Department of Accounting and Finance

The department of Accounting and Finance educates Bachelors, Masters and Doctors of Business Studies for demanding expert and management roles.

Accounting and finance are key strengths of the University of Vaasa. Our department is internationally renowned for its high-quality research and we are Finland's largest department in accounting and finance.

Seven professors and almost 30 other individuals currently work in a range of research and teaching positions at the department of Accounting and Finance. Finance and financial accounting is the largest subject at the University of Vaasa in terms of student numbers. Our department has over 400 students studying financial accounting and finance as their primary subject and, each year, approximately 70 Masters of Science in Business Studies graduate from our department. This accounts for almost a fifth of the annual number of post-graduate degrees completed at the University of Vaasa.

The strong, active research skills of our teaching staff are reflected in the range of courses on offer, especially in our Master's programmes. The programmes offered by our department provide students with the readiness to work in demanding expert positions in corporate accounting, finance and financial markets, as well as in auditing. Special skills related to finance and financial accounting are becoming ever more important in both business planning and management. Therefore, studies in finance and financial accounting provide a solid foundation for various tasks in general management.

These pages provide information on our programmes and the research carried out at our department.
